The second half of a detailed two-year survey of the history of the United States, this course takes students from the westward movement of the late 1800s to the present. Lessons integrate topics in geography, civics, and economics. The course guides students through critical episodes in the story of America. Students examine the effect of the settlement of the American West; investigate the social, political, and economic changes that resulted from industrialization; explore the changing role of the United States in international affairs from the late nineteenth century through the end of the Cold War; and trace major events and trends in the United States from the Cold War through the first decade of the twenty-first century.

Intermediate American Art II lessons include an introduction to the artists, cultures, and great works of American art and architecture from the end of the Civil War through modern times. Students will investigate paintings done in various styles, from impressionist to pop; learn about modern sculpture and folk art; discover how photographers and painters have inspired one another; examine examples of modern architecture, from skyscrapers to art museums; and create artworks inspired by works they learn about.

This course equips students with the essential language arts skills needed throughout their academic careers. Students read and analyze a variety of informational and fictional texts. In our Grade 6 mathematics course, students deepen their understanding of multiplication and division of fractions to apply their knowledge to divide fractions by fractions, with an additional focus on increasing efficiency and fluency. Students gain a foundation in the concepts of ratio and rate as an extension of their work with whole number multiplication and division, and in preparation for work with proportional relationships in Grade 7. This course is designed to teach lifetime health and wellness knowledge in order to prevent various psychological and physical disorders. Students will learn health information and practices, as well as experience implementing their newfound skills and knowledge. They will acquire the skills necessary to handle peer pressure, recognize unhealthy and risky behaviors and how to prevent and avoid them, and develop strategies for improving personal and community health. Students will gain an understanding of the relationships that influence one’s health, as well as refusal and coping skills that play a major part in personal health, as well. Quizzes, discussion sessions among peers, projects, and interactions will be assessed weekly to gauge content understanding. After completion of this course, the student will understand and have experience practicing lifelong skills for lifelong health and wellness.

Intermediate World Art I lessons include an introduction to the artists, cultures, and great works of world art and architecture from ancient through medieval times. Students will investigate how artists from different civilizations used various techniques, from painting to mosaic; examine elements of design and styles of decoration, from the spiral to the solar disk; and explore some of the best-preserved works from ancient tombs, including the treasures of Egypt’s King Tut.

This course continues the development of comprehension and analysis of informational and fictional texts with an ongoing emphasis on reading strategies. The Life Science program invites students to investigate the world of living things—at levels both large and small—by reading, observing, and experimenting with aspects of life on Earth. In Stride’s Grade 7 mathematics course, students focus on real-world scenarios and mathematical problems involving algebraic expressions and linear equations and begin to apply their understanding of rational numbers with increased complexity. The course lays the foundation for exploring concepts of angle, similarity and congruence, more formally addressed in Grade 8, as students work with scale drawings and construct and analyze relationships among geometric figures. World History I surveys the story of the human past from the period before written records, prehistory, through the fourteenth century. The course is organized chronologically and, within broad eras, regionally. The course focus is the story of the human past and change over time, including the development of religion, philosophy, the arts, and science and technology. Geography concepts and skills are introduced as they appear in the context of the historical narrative. Students explore what archaeologists and historians have learned about the earliest hunter-gatherers and farmers, and then move to a study of the four river valley civilizations. After a brief writing unit, they study the origins of Confucianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism and the eras in which they developed. The second half of the course traces the story of classical Greece and Rome, the Byzantine Empire, the origins of Christianity and Islam, and then continues through the fourteenth century in Europe, North Africa, and East Asia. Historical thinking skills are a key component of Intermediate World History. Students practice document and art analysis, conduct research, and write in a variety of formats. They also practice map reading skills and look at how historians draw conclusions about the past as well as what those conclusions are.

The grade 8 health course helps students develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions to stay active, safe, and informed as teenagers and as adults. The lessons and activities introduce important aspects of the main types of health: emotional and mental health, social health and wellness, and physical health. Among other topics, students explore nutrition, understanding and avoiding disease, violence prevention and safety, body systems, and building character through maintaining healthy relationships. They also explore topics related to the use and abuse of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol; green schools and environmental health; dating, abstinence, and human sexuality; and mental and emotional health and disorders. The Math 8 course prepares students for more advanced study in algebra as students solve linear equations and systems of equations, work with radical and integer exponents, gain conceptual understanding of functions, and use functions to model quantitative relationships. The Physical Science program introduces students to many aspects of the physical world, focusing first on chemistry and then on physics. Earth science is the study of the systems of Earth and how we interact with them. The study of all the Earth is important for the understanding of our impact on the environment and space. It is important to understand how our choices will impact the Earth so that we can make sustainable choices so that our home of planet Earth can survive.

English 6 is designed to provide students with a review of the essential language arts skills presented at this grade level. The course content will incorporate all different types of literature in both fiction and nonfiction categories. The class will focus on being about to read, explore, and analyze literary and informational texts and evaluate the information in them, conducting research and writing analytical and narrative pieces. It will also illustrate reading comprehension strategies to maximize understanding and functioning in academic situations. All of this will be introduced by a review of important grammar and writing at the grade level.

English 7 has four separate parts that are focused upon. The first focuses on the steps of the writing process: how they are broken down indivudally and how they all work together. The next two parts are focused on two themes. The first is survival and then friendship. You will learn about the parts of a plot and also read short stories focused on those two themes. The course concludes with a lesson about heros and Greek mythology.

English 8 is designed to provide students with a concise review of the proper use of English. Students will have the opportunity to learn about effective reading strategies to use before, during, and after reading; all of which are important to maximize comprehension. This course will review figurative language and allow students to identify, analyze, and design various types of figurative language. Students will practice reading literature while recognizing plot elements. Students will also discover the importance of reading informational texts. This course will give students the opportunity to differentiate between types of poems and the students will evaluate and create poems as a culminating assignment. This course will prepare students with the necessary skills for advancement through English courses.

In this course, students learn about the government and economic system of the United States and their role in it. They begin their study with looking at colonial America and the importance of the documents, such as the Constitution, that the Founding Fathers wrote. Students then turn their attention to the structure of the U.S. government as they learn about the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. They study the role of elections, voting, and public opinion in the American political process, as well as the role that state and local governments play. They learn citizenship skills that will enable them to participate in their government and communities throughout their lives. Turning to economics, students study the free enterprise system that the American economy is based on and learn about how economic growth is measured, types of businesses, the process of developing the government budget, and the role the government takes in the U.S. economy. They also gain personal finance knowledge, such as the importance of budgeting, saving, and the responsible use of credit. Students examine the role that banks and international trade play in their lives. Life comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Life exists in a simple one-celled- organism such as a bacteria to a highly complex form of life such as a human being. Whatever form it takes, each organism has to face the same challenges: the challenge of getting energy, the challenge of reproducing, and the challenge of maintaining structure. This course looks at these challenges: What is the chemical process that allows each organism to get the necessary energy and why carbon is so important? What is the organization of the cell and its structures? How are mitosis and meiosis different? What are dominant and recessive traits. The lessons includes classification of species, photosynthesis, and cellular reproduction, DNA, RNA and man's relationship to the environment.

An overall review of general mathematics including the following principles for whole numbers, fractions, and decimals: place values, rounding and the four basic operations. Also covers the basic manipulation of fractions and understanding percentages of numbers.

In 7th Grade General Math, you will have a concise review of mathematical concepts from Math Grade 6 with new concepts presented. In this course, students will learn how to gather information, organize ideas, format stories for different forms of news media, and edit their stories for publication. The course will also examine the historical development of journalism and the role of journalism in society.

Explore and build foundational musical skills with Exploring Music from eDynamic. This course offers a variety of learning activities. The course is organized into eight units. Students will learn how we hear music and the ways in which music can impact our lives. The lessons will cover essential elements of music such as rhythm, pitch, and harmony, as well as different musical genres and the role of singing and various instruments.
