Middle School Placement Exams

The Keystone School

Need help choosing your child's middle school math or language arts courses? Keystone offers middle school placement exams for math & language arts.

Middle School Placement Exams

At Keystone, we support each student's unique strengths and interests with an engaging middle school curriculum that helps students master lesson objectives and prepare for high school. Keystone middle school program curriculum is based on a learner-centered model that draws from current educational research, designed to help diverse learners thrive.

As you incorporate Keystone middle school curriculum into your student's learning plan, placement exams can help you determine the best courses for your student. By taking the time to have your child complete one or more of our middle school placement exams, you can better determine which level math or language arts course will be the best fit.

Before taking a placement exam, please review the guidelines and grading instructions.

Preparing to Take Middle School Placement Exams

Students should take at least one hour to complete each middle school placement exam in an area with little to no distractions. If they cannot complete the exam in one sitting, plan on finishing it in no more than two sessions.

Be sure to set up your child’s work area prior to beginning the exam and provide your child with paper and pencils so you don't have to search for these items when needed.

Please keep in mind these requirements when administering and taking the middle school placement exams:

    • All questions should be attempted.
    • Use the space provided and the back of the exam sheet if needed to solve problems. Write the answer in the proper location.
    • Answer each question completely and avoid answers containing more than one possibility. Your child should feel confident about their answer.
    • If your child is undoubtedly stuck on a question, leave it blank.
    • Your child should do their own work with no outside resources or support from family or friends. If your child doesn't do their own work, the results will not accurately reflect their placement level and they may enroll in a course for which they are not ready.
    • The results are yours to keep and are not shared with Keystone in any way unless you choose to do so.

Grading Requirements
  • Please keep in mind these requirements when grading the middle school placement exams

    • All answers should be marked as "Correct" or "Incorrect". One ("1") point should be awarded for each correct answer.
    • The essay question is worth 20 points. Use the essay table section of the answer key to determine the score.
    • At the bottom of each page, record the total points awarded for that page.
    • Using the Results Table locate the exam by name. Next, locate the score that was achieved on the exam. Corresponding to this score, you will find a recommended action plan.

The results may indicate the need to complete another middle school placement exam. If so, choose the correct placement exam above and complete it as noted.

Once all appropriate exams have been completed, course selections can be made. After choosing your courses, view the course catalog for course details.
