How To Choose a Homeschool Curriculum That’s the Best Fit

Homeschooling can be a great choice if a traditional schooling option isn't working for your student. Once you've decided to homeschool, however, there are still a number of important decisions to make. You want to ensure that the curriculum and structure you follow is going to set your student up for success. When considering various homeschool curriculum options, it's crucial to consider the level of support your student needs, their learning style, and your situation.

Your Student: Their Needs and Learning Style

First and foremost, the homeschool curriculum you choose should be suited to your student's age and level of academic development. Keystone offers traditional grade bands of elementary, middle, and high school to serve a wide range of learners from grades K–12.

Your student's learning style will also be an important factor in their success. Some students may thrive with hands-on learning, while others may be more auditory learners who need to listen and process information. Keep information like this in mind when choosing a homeschool program.

Keystone courses offer opportunities for both online and offline learning activities, accommodating multiple learning styles through these course activities and our overarching flexibility. Explore these course activities by trying a course demo.

Your Role in Your Student's Education

When you decide to homeschool your student, you take on the bulk of the responsibility for their education. Having a clear awareness of the role you want to play and the role you're able to play will help you pick a homeschool curriculum that will meet both your and your student's needs.

Consider asking yourself why you decided to homeschool your student in the first place. Did you have certain thoughts about the philosophy of your student's education? What did you want to emphasize in homeschooling your student?

With a learning model of supported independent study, Keystone provides all digital course materials your student needs to stay on track. For some courses, materials may require an additional purchase. The Keystone team is also available to provide guidance on content pacing and navigation through the online learning system.

Your Situation

There are a wide variety of reasons you have decided to homeschool your student. Regardless of your situation or why you made the decision, we understand that homeschooling may be a short-term solution or a long-term need. We can help by supplementing your existing program or providing an extra course for your student to get ahead in their studies.

Regardless of the reason that you've chosen to homeschool, selecting the right homeschool curriculum is crucial for your student. Perhaps they're an athlete, a performer, an entrepreneur, or your family may travel a lot. Our flexibility allows all students to learn and succeed, regardless of your family's needs.

What to Look for in a Homeschool Curriculum

Evaluating various homeschool curriculum options yourself is the best way to make the right choice. When looking through what a curriculum offers, you should pay special attention to the content covered as well as the delivery style.

When it comes to the content of a homeschool curriculum, check to see if it covers what you expect it to, or if there are any obvious gaps. Ensure that your curriculum of choice covers all the areas of content your student needs to be successful. Delivery style of the content is also important because students have different learning styles and may learn in different ways. Take the time to understand how a particular homeschool curriculum will be delivering educational content to your student. Here's how Keystone's homeschool curriculum stacks up:

  • Programs available for all students in grades K–12
