You’ll learn how different 3D models are built and how to practice using a variety of modeling methods. Agriculture has played an important role in the lives of humans for thousands of years. It has fed us and given us materials that have helped us survive. Today, scientists and practitioners are working to improve and better understand agriculture and how it can be used to continue to sustain human life. In this course, students learn about the development and maintenance of agriculture, animal systems, natural resources, and other food sources. Students also examine the relationship between agriculture and natural resources and the environment, health, politics, and world trade.

Algebra 1 course is intended to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. Because it is built to follow revised middle school math courses, the course covers slightly different ground than previous versions of Algebra. Algebra 2 is a cumulative review of all Algebra topics and is a fundamental course that is completed before the study of Trigonometry/PreCalculus. The course content is also the last mathematics course covered on the SAT's. Once completed with the course, students will be able to correctly apply the order of operations to evaluate expressions and use formulas; solve systems of linear equations using the graphing method; perform operations on polynomials; add, subtract, multiply, and divide functions; identify an arithmetic or geometric sequence; and write and graph equations of parabolas, circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas.

Starting at the very roots and foundation of democracy students will explore the founding fathers and their task of creating the republic. This course focuses on the techniques, methods, and theories that guide the study of the past. Students learn how archaeological research is conducted and interpreted, as well as how artifacts are located and preserved. Finally, students learn about the relationship of material items to culture and what we can learn about past societies from these items.

Art and Music Appreciation introduces the major themes, influences, and personalities in art and music that shaped most of Western cultural heritage. A dual track approach is used by the Learning Guide and provides a basis for synthesis. This is a full credit course that combines both the Art Appreciation and Music Appreciation half credit courses. This is a textbook based course that comes with a printed learning guide.

This one-semester course will introduce learners to the various forms of the visual arts, such as painting, sculpture, film, and more. Biology with Lab introduces the basic principles and concepts in Biology. This course comes with a laboratory kit that follows the hands on labs that are incorporated throughout the course. Emphasis is placed on the study of life, the continuity of life, and the relationship between living organisms and the environment. Students will explore the concepts of evolution and biodiversity and will discover the importance of the animal and plant kingdoms. They will distinguish between the major systems of the human body, identify the parts and functions of each system and analyze how the systems interact with each other in order to sustain life. In Biotechnology 1b:Unlocking Nature’s Secrets, you’ll build on your knowledge from Biotechnology: Introduction and learn how this field seeks to cure such deadly diseases as cancer and malaria, develop innovative medicine, and effectively feed the world through improved agricultural systems. Learn about some of the challenges biotechnology faces today, such as the growth of antibiotic resistant bacteria and questions about the safety of commercially produced genetically modified organisms (GMOs). You’ll research new biotechnologies and learn how they are changing the world we live in, including the environmental benefits of industrial biotechnology.

Students read selections from British and world literature in a loosely organized chronological framework. They analyze the themes, styles, and structures of these texts and make thematic connections among diverse authors, periods, and settings. Students work independently on many of their analyses and engage in creative collaboration with their peers. They analyze the themes, styles, and structures of these texts and make thematic connections among diverse authors, periods, and settings. Students complete guided and independent writing assignments that refine their analytical skills. They have opportunities for creative expression in projects of their choice. Students also practice test-taking skills for standardized assessments in critical reading and writing. Prerequisite: English 9, 10, 11 (or equivalent).

Business Law focuses on the application of law to business operations and transactions in the United States. It is designed to provide students with an overview of the legal system, including statutes and regulations that affect businesses, families, and individuals in a variety of ways. All of you will eventually assume the role of citizen, worker, and consumer in society. This course will provide you with a solid foundation in understanding legal issues that impact businesses, but will also focus on “real life” situations that rely on the law. These “real life” situations may apply to you someday. Business topics in this course focus on legal regulations, which govern modern society including Internet privacy and security, ethics, and computer crime. Other topics covered include an exploration of contracts, agency, and negotiable instruments. Personal Finance topics include buying and insuring a car, renting an apartment, buying a home, marriage, divorce, and the use of personal credit. Some of the most common crimes and torts are discussed, including traffic violations, search and seizure laws, vandalism, and shoplifting. You will also explore and analyze “real life”

This course provides a comprehensive survey of differential and integral calculus concepts, including limits, derivative and integral computation, linearization, Riemann sums, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and differential equations. Content is presented across ten units and covers various applications, including graph analysis, linear motion, average value, area, volume, and growth and decay models. In this course students use an online textbook, which supplements the instruction they receive and provides additional opportunities to practice using the content they’ve learned. Students will use an embedded graphing calculator applet (GCalc) for their work on this course; the software for the applet can be downloaded at no charge. Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry (or equivalent)

Students use an informative interactive process to explore career and life options in this one-semester elective. They begin with a thorough examination of their own interests, aptitudes, achievements, and personality styles. Instructional material then helps them match job market information, interview techniques, training requirements, and educational paths to potential careers that suit their strengths and personal priorities. Successfully completing this course gives students the ability to identify and describe their personal interests, aptitudes, and lifestyle goals; locate and evaluate information about different careers; identify the skills and knowledge needed for careers of interest and how to obtain them; and create an entrepreneurial business plan.
